What does tree and shrub trimming cost?
Shrub trimming usually runs $75 to $250 for a typical bed, priced by how many plants and how overgrown they are. Small tree work runs $200 to $800. Anything requiring climbing, rigging, or removal near a structure goes to a certified arborist and is priced separately.

When should you prune in North Texas?
Timing matters more than technique for most plants, and pruning at the wrong time is how people lose a season of blooms.
- Late winter, February, is the main window for most shrubs and shade trees. The plant is dormant, the structure is visible, and it pushes fresh growth as it wakes up.
- Spring bloomers like azalea and forsythia get pruned right after they flower, never before, or you cut off the buds.
- Crape myrtles get thinned in late winter, not topped.
- Oaks should not be pruned February through June because of oak wilt. Winter is the safe window in Texas.
- Light shaping can happen any time in the growing season.
What is crape myrtle murder?
Topping a crape myrtle back to stubs every year. It is everywhere in DFW and it is genuinely bad for the tree.
Topping forces weak, whippy growth from the cut points, produces fewer and later blooms, and permanently ruins the branch structure that makes a mature crape myrtle beautiful. Done properly you thin out crossing and interior branches and remove suckers, and the tree keeps its shape.
If yours has already been topped for years it can be recovered, but it takes a few seasons of correct pruning.
Do you do large tree removal?
No. Large removals, anything requiring climbing or rigging, and any work near power lines belongs with a certified arborist carrying the right insurance. We will tell you honestly when a job is out of our scope and point you at someone who does it properly.

Why is my tree struggling?
Most declining trees in DFW are failing for one of five reasons, and three of them are visible at the base of the trunk rather than in the canopy. A buried root flare is the most common and the least recognised.
