How this goes together
Width decides whether it gets used
Forty-eight inches lets two people walk side by side, which is what a front walk is for. Thirty-six is the practical minimum for a single-file side yard. Anything narrower reads as a garden path and people step off it onto the lawn, which is how you end up with a worn strip beside a new walkway.
Curves need radius, not wiggle
A gentle sweeping curve looks deliberate and walks naturally. A tight or fussy curve makes people cut the corner. We lay curves out with a hose on site and walk them before a single paver is cut, because a radius that looks generous on paper is usually too tight in the ground.
The border does the cutting
On a curved walk, the soldier course absorbs the geometry so the field pattern stays clean. All the cuts land against the border where they read as intentional, instead of leaving slivers along the open edge where they both look wrong and shift first.
Lighting gets planned before the base goes in
Sleeving under the walkway during construction costs almost nothing. Retrofitting a cable crossing under a finished walk means cutting it. If there is any chance of path lighting later, the conduit goes in now.
